| About the Author, William Beck
He has an MA degree in Mathematics. He has taught for 35 years with the majority
of that being at a community college near Baltimore, MD. While most of his
experience is at the college level, he has also taught junior high and high
school students.
He has also served as the coordinator for the Review Math Center, and as
the Head of the Mathematics Department.
He co-authored a programmed textbook on Arithmetic and has published two
computer programs (one on simulating employment for mentally challenged adults
and the other a point-of-sale program for a beauty salon).
He is the only faculty member at CCBC Essex to have been installed as an
honorary member of the Chi Theta chapter of the Phi Theta Kappa honor society
(an honor society for community college students). Some other honorees are
a couple of past presidents and a dean of students.
He has presented at several conferences including a DEAM (Developmental Educators
of Maryland) conference at Montgomery County Community College, MD and the
ICTCM (International Conference on Technology in College Mathematics) conference
in New Orleans, LA. In October, 1999, he presented, "Using Technology to
Teach Review Mathematics," at a regional conference in Blue Bell, PA. In
November, 1999, he presented, "Creating Computer Software that Helps Students
Read Mathematics," at the AMATYC (American Mathematics Association of Two
Year and Community Colleges) in Pittsburgh, PA.. |
